Some discover horrors no one has thought of yet. Who will survive this Night of Vengeance?
Tell me about yourself.
Well, I'm 40 yrs old. I live in San Antonio, Texas. I spend most of my time writing or reading or trying to come up with new and freaky ideas for stories.
How long have you been writing?
Ever since I was a kid. I really can't remember a time when I wasn't writing.
What’s your story about?
My current book, Night of Vengeance is about an ex-con who was wrongfully convicted, so he returns to his small town in Texas for revenge.
What genre would you consider your book?
It falls under horror/extreme horror/splatterpunk its pretty wild
Give me some insight into your main character.
I have kind of an ensemble of characters. A running theme in most of my stories is that the weak become strong. You'll see that here as well.
What makes your book different from others in its genre?
I try to delve more into the psyche of the characters, and while they are violent there's usually a point to the violence. My biggest goal is to always create new and horrific scenarios for my characters and keep it as realistic as possible. I've gotten away from adding supernatural elements to the books.
What inspired you to write your book?
For this one, the movie The Purge. I was so excited to see it and the concept had so much potential, yet it just fell flat. So I wrote this to sort of show what I think the movie could have been...but with my own spins, so no one will mistake it for a Purge ripoff.
How did you come up with the title?
I had a few in mind. I took my top 3 and had my readers vote on it.
Tell me about your writing process?
Nothing fancy. I don't even have an "office" per se. I sit in my recliner in the living room with my laptop and do about 2000-3000 words a day.
Are you a full-time writer?
I am at the moment, but mostly due to lack of other employment opportunities lol
Do you outline and plot your book as you’re writing or does it go where it goes?
I just write it out and let the story tell itself
What is your favorite book?
I have lots of them. One of them is Depraved by Bryan Smith
Are there any new authors that have grabbed your interest?
New to me maybe, I love Edward Lee, and Bryan Smith. I been reading lots of them this past year
Are you self published or traditionally published? Do you wish you had gone about the process differently?
I self publish. I had a small publisher for a year or so, but that didn't work out. I'm happy with how things have gone for me as an indie so far.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Just write what you love. Don't try to chase current trends or favorite genres. Be the one to start your own trend. Get them chasing you.
When you aren’t writing, what do you do for fun?
I like to read, watch movies hang out with the kids. I also have a role in a local indie horror film shooting here called "The Keeper" It's a slasher movie and I am cast as the slasher. We start shooting next week, so that has been fun. My wife and step son have small roles as well.
We're also all extras in a TV pilot shooting here called Zombie Reign. I might have a speaking role in that one later as well.
What's your biggest fear?
Who is the most annoying character you've ever encountered in a book, on tv or in a movie?
Dexter's wife Rita or Marie from Breaking Bad
If you were on death row, what would you choose for a final meal?
A double whataburger with everything
Where can we find you?
