My work is predominantly the YA Fantasy genre, but of course there is quite a bit of romance threaded throughout the storyline. I've been writing as long as I can remember, but I started with this genre in 2008, when my Dad got sick. I needed a bit of an escape.
What are your three favorite books of all time?
That is such a hard question! Gone With the Wind Margaret Mitchell, The Book Of Dreams O.R. Melling, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I know you are a music lover. What do you typically listen to when you write?
I usually listen to a lot of British Alternative, Thirteen Senses, Muse, Bloc Party, but I also listen to different US groups like MuteMath, Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend (love)… Right now I am working on a sequel to The Star Child and I am listening to a band called Imagine Dragons. I love finding new music from bands that I've never heard of. It's a hobby.
How did you get the idea for your new novel THE STAR CHILD?
It was weird I just looked out the window one night before I got into the shower and just thought "Star Child". Then the ideas started coming to me. A young boy who's all alone meets a mysterious girl on the beach off the coast of Ireland. Who was the girl? What did she want? Why would he feel such a connection to her? I was so interested in them, that I had to write about it. I sat down and wrote the first chapter that night.
Your main character, Kellen, is a very relatable character?
Did someone you know inspire him? Me! Ha. I know that probably sounds a little self-involved. However, I've always been a bit of a tomboy – not in the way I dress, but in the way I act. So Kellen has some of me in him, but as guy.
That being said, he's still his own person. He's not your typical teenage guy, because he has been through so much in his life. There have been many occasions where I'm writing Kellen and I think "No, that's not how he would handle it? How would Kellen work that out?"
What I like about him is that he uses his intelligence to get out of almost every situation. He follows his gut a lot which is terrifying, but a quality that I respect.
What are you currently working on?
Right now I just finished my first draft of the sequel The Star Child. The book is entitled The Fallen Stars and it carries on Kellen and Calienta's story. When I started working on this book, it sort of felt like a reunion. I was back amongst old friends again! I've truly enjoyed taking these characters to the next level and exploring them further.

The world is about to be cloaked in darkness. Only one can stop the night…
Kellen St. James has spent his entire life being overlooked as an unwanted, ordinary, slightly geeky kid. That is until a beautiful girl, one who has haunted his dreams for the past eleven years of his life, shows up spinning tales of a prophecy. Not just any old prophecy either, but one in which Kellen plays a key role.
Suddenly, Kellen finds himself on the run through a Celtic underworld of faeries and demons, angels and gods, not to mention a really ticked off pack of hellhounds, all in order to save the world from darkness. But will they make it in time?
