The great ones... believe me, I read them. And I read them again. Then I call my friends and family and read the review over the phone to them. If you truly loved my book and took the time to write a review of it, believe me when I say I have your Amazon user name memorized in my skull and I adore you.
But what about the really bad ones? Those I love too. If you hate my book, tell me why. Help me understand what I could've done better in your opinion. Help me grow before I publish more material that you will despise. Unfortunately, the couple of really bad reviews I've gotten had nothing constructive about them. One actually said something to the effect of, "I'm embarrassed to admit I actually read all the way through this book." I'm not sure why, but I burst out laughing when I saw that. My skin has gotten much thicker than it was a couple short years ago, for sure.
Not everyone is going to like everything. Do you enjoy paranormal books? Like action? Love a tough heroine? There's a good chance you might like my series. Would you be embarrassed to read vampire fiction? Granted, this genre isn't winning any Pulitzers, but if you like historical biographies, you might not dig my stuff. I'm good with this. Heck, I even understand it.
In my last house I had this giant bookshelf that ran across one wall. All my "smart people" books were at eye level. Anyone who glanced across the shelves as they walked into the room would see I read classics. If they looked way up high or way down low, they'd find my guilty pleasures. If you think this way, for sure Lily Drake is a guilty pleasure. I have no problem admitting this!
So to anyone who reads this post, I implore you... leave reviews. Especially for my books. Good, bad or just plain old mean, I will appreciate that you took the time to do so.
