So all over the media this morning I am bombarded with headlines that read "Adam Levine hates this country!" All because apparently, the crappiest member of his team from "The Voice" (don't get all riled up, this isn't coming from me) was chosen by the at-home audience calling in and he had to send home two other, more talented contestants.
I won't deny it... I don't watch it religiously, but I enjoy checking out Le Vox as I like to call it. Fun music, almost always songs that I know and like are used, the coaches are likable and even funny at times and well... there is Adam Levine. And yes, like most women in America, I am not immune to his beautifully tattooed hotness and cocky smile.
So anyway, back to the story... it seems that everyone is up in arms about this comment. For goodness sake... Adam Levine hates America! How dare he! Ummm hello... the man's mic was on, apparently he didn't realize it and he made a comment taken out of context. I do this daily. Not just that, but comments that don't even need to be taken out of context. For example, yesterday I am answering the phone and as I hang up I loudly remark, "I hate stupid people." Is that really fair to say? Stupid people can't help it they are stupid. Do I really HATE all these people of lower intelligence? Nah. I just find them annoying. Probably much like Adam Levine finds people who stupidly vote for the least talented singer annoying. See where I'm going with this?
Now to get to the real reason that I'm more than a little ticked at this whole blow up. While every overzealous patriot in America is trying to figure out how to car bomb some rock singer for the equivalent of burning a flag in their misguided opinion, were you aware that the Monsanto Food Protection Act was snuck into legislation and allows GMO seeds to be planted without the approval that was previously required?
If you aren't familiar with Monsanto, I'm quite sure you are familiar with their products. Among their widely used inventions are a couple little chemicals we affectionately dubbed DDT and AGENT ORANGE. Yeah, that's right. The same company that dumped toxins on soldiers like my father in Vietnam are producing the food that appears on our dinner tables.
I'll get off my Monsanto kick for the moment... Other than that in this world there are thousands of children who are being sold into slavery and forced into prostitution. Animals are needlessly being tortured and brutalized for experiments so women can wear makeup. Our economic system is FAILING. Elderly people are eating dog food because they can't afford anything else. People are going without needed medical treatments and medication because they don't have insurance or money to cover the fees. As a society our basic rights are being violated. The Declaration of Independence enshrines the basic rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness... yet in this country we value pharmaceutical companies monetary gains above finding real cures for diseases, which prevents our citizens from even having a life. And if you're sick, how can you really pursue any happiness?
I'm not going to pop off like Adam Levine and say I hate this country. I don't. I love this country. I love that I was raised here, that my father and grandfather were veterans and I adore this beautiful land. I HATE this time. This point, right now, we as a people and a country are a hot mess. Values aren't what they used to be. The almighty dollar is put above all else. Take a look around and realize, things need to change. One of which is the media and what we as Americans deem important. I could give two craps about what Adam Levine says on "The Voice" when he didn't know he was being recorded. Media outlets should be ashamed this is front page news. We should be ashamed this is what our country has grown into... news is nothing more than gossip rags.
