Mount Vernon is a city in Knox County, Ohio, United States. The population was 16,990 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County. The city is named after Mount Vernon, the plantation owned by George Washington.

The Woodward Opera House, the oldest opera theater of its kind in the United States, is located downtown. The theater is currently under major renovation and will, upon its completion, be transformed into a local cultural and performing-arts center.

It is around 45 minutes north of Columbus, Ohio. I like to travel that way to occasionally shop and eat, Lily heads that way to hunt vampires. It's a convenient drive and offers a little of everything for everyone.
During the months of May through October, Main Street in Mount Vernon shuts down on the First Friday evening of the month and festivities are centered around downtown.
